Written by Ananda Ganesha M

The OPPO Reno10 series, which includes three different phone models: the OPPO Reno10, OPPO Reno10 Pro, and OPPO Reno10 Pro+, was internationally introduced in mid-July 2023.

The global version of the OPPO Reno10 series differs from the Chinese market variation. The global one will be the topic of this article.

The OPPO Reno10 series, like its predecessor, the OPPO Reno9 series, falls into the mid-range category, with the exception of the OPPO Reno10 Pro+, which is positioned as a flagship smartphone.

As the successor to the OPPO Reno9 series, the OPPO Reno10 includes a revamped design, an upgraded camera setup, and more battery features.

One of the primary selling points of the OPPO Reno10 series is its commitment to providing a superior photographic experience. However, all three phones provide an enjoyable gaming experience. The differences between the OPPO Reno10, OPPO Reno10 Pro, and OPPO Reno10 Pro+ devices are discussed further below.

The Differences Between the OPPO Reno10 Series

The OPPO Reno10 series is made up of three phones, each with its own pricing, features, and specs. It is important to understand the differences between these models in order to make a wise choice. Let's take a closer look at the differences.

1. Flagship SoC vs. Mid-Range SoC

The regular OPPO Reno10 is the most affordable choice, having a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip. This SoC is a rebranded Dimensity 1080, with two high-performance Cortex A78 cores running at 2.6 GHz and six power-saving Cortex A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz.

The Dimensity 7050 has been used in various other companies' mid-range phones, including the realme 11 Pro and realme narzo 60 Pro. This chipset, built on a 6 nm fabrication process, delivers high power efficiency, resulting in longer battery life.

Its graphics processing unit (GPU) is the Mali G68 MC4 on the Valhall 2 architecture, able to operate at 800 MHz. In addition, the Dimensity 7050 supports LPDDR5 RAM at 3200 MHz as well as storage types up to UFS 3.1, although specific implementations may differ across manufacturers.

The basic OPPO Reno10 has a minimum of 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage that utilizes LPDDR5 and the UFS 2.2 standard.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro, on the other hand, is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 778G SoC, which provides performance comparable to the Dimensity 7050 featured in the regular model. The Snapdragon 778G's CPU, however, has a significantly slower clock speed than the Dimensity 7050.

The Snapdragon 778G has a three-cluster configuration: a 2.4 GHz Cortex A78-based Kryo 67 Prime core, a 2.2 GHz Cortex A78-based Kryo 670 Gold core, and a 1.9 GHz Cortex A55-based Kryo 670 Silver core. Its GPU, the Adreno 642L, is powerful for a mid-range chipset but falls short of the Dimensity 7050's GPU clock speed (490 MHz vs. 800 MHz).

OPPO's choice to equip the OPPO Reno10 Pro with the Snapdragon 778G is somewhat peculiar since this SoC was released in 2021, making it two years old by the time the smartphone was released in 2023. A more modern chipset could have been considered for this model.

This is in contrast to the standard OPPO Reno10, which comes with the Dimensity 7050 SoC from 2023. Despite being a renamed version, the original Dimensity 1080 SoC was introduced earlier (in 2022).

Finally, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ wins the top spot with its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is a high-end SoC often seen in 2022 flagships. As a result, its performance is undoubtedly impressive.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, built on TSMC's 4 nm technology, which improves power efficiency. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is more susceptible to heat, but it can sustain top performance for a longer period of time without throttling.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset comes with one 3.0 GHz Cortex X2 prime core, three 2.75 GHz Cortex A710 high-performance cores, and four 2.0 GHz Cortex A510 power-saving cores. Its Adreno 730 GPU offers smooth frame rates even with heavy  games.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 scored the highest AnTuTu v9 score of the three models, earning 1,057,599 points in benchmark testing. The smartphone also received a Geekbench 5 score of 1308 for single-core performance and 4168 for multi-core performance.

The regular OPPO Reno10 5G, powered by the Dimensity 7050, comes in second, with an AnTuTu v9 score of 558,594 points and a Geekbench 5 score of 833 points for single-core and 2293 points for multi-core performance.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro with the Snapdragon 778G achieved the lowest AnTuTu v9 score of 530,856 points, as well as a Geekbench 5 score of 758 points for single-core performance and 2767 points for multi-core performance.

The synthetic benchmark results of the OPPO Reno10 5G and OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G differ very little. While such benchmarks can provide a rough reference, they may not fully reflect real-world performance, especially when scores are closely aligned.

In conclusion, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 excels in gaming performance and can give fast frame rates at high graphics settings for an array of games. The normal OPPO Reno10 and OPPO Reno10 Pro, on the other hand, have comparable mid-range gaming performance, with both capable of running Genshin Impact smoothly on medium to low graphics settings.

2. Different Main Camera Resolutions, Integrated Gyro-EIS

The camera capabilities of the OPPO Reno10 series are the series' main selling point since the product line is largely aimed at photography enthusiasts rather than gamers. Let's take a deeper look at each phone in the series' camera specs.

The standard OPPO Reno10 has a triple-camera configuration that includes a 64 MP primary camera, a 32 MP telephoto camera, and an 8 MP ultrawide camera. The primary camera has a 64 MP resolution, an f/1.7 aperture, and a 1/2-inch sensor with each pixel measuring 0.7 m. The telephoto lens has PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) for quick focus changes and an optical zoom of up to 2x.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro's primary camera resolution has been "reduced" to 50 MP. However, resolution numbers alone do not determine the camera's overall performance.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro's 50 MP primary camera has a bigger f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor size. It has multi-directional PDAF, which is an improved version of standard PDAF, as well as OIS (Optical picture Stabilization) for better image stabilization during shooting.

The Reno10 Pro's telephoto and ultrawide companion cameras are similar to those found on the standard model, with 32 MP and 8 MP resolutions, respectively.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ has the same 50 MP primary camera resolution as the Reno10 Pro, as well as multi-directional PDAF and OIS. One major difference is found in one of its companion cameras. The Pro+ model has a telephoto periscope lens with a 64 MP resolution and up to 5x optical zoom.

Furthermore, the sensor size of this lens is significantly larger at 1/2 inch, indicating that the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ would likely create images with more detail and better brightness than its "little brother."

All three phones are capable of capturing videos at up to 4K quality at 30 FPS (frames per second). The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ takes a slight lead in this aspect, as it can record at 60 FPS at 4K resolution, offering smoother video capture. Furthermore, all three phones have gyro-EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) to provide stable video when filming.

Shifting focus to the front-facing camera, all three phones boast a 32 MP resolution for capturing high-quality selfies. The front camera features an f/2.4 aperture, a 22 mm focal length, a 1/2.74-inch sensor size, and individual pixels sized at 0.8µm.

Remarkably, all three members of the OPPO Reno10 series are equipped with autofocus on the front camera, enabling users to capture sharp and clear selfies. Additionally, vlogging enthusiasts will appreciate the gyro-EIS stabilization feature that allows stable vlogging recordings at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 FPS.
